Bennington College, a liberal arts college distinguished for its pioneering initiatives in higher education, seeks an engaged financial aid counselor to join a dynamic and highly committed Financial Aid team. The Financial Aid Counselor will work collaboratively to expedite and enhance all areas of the financial aid application, verification, eligibility, and disbursement processes for students and families applying for financial aid at Bennington College. 

The Counselor serves as a resource for students applying for financial aid - assisting both new and current students with all phases of the written and online application process - from reviewing key deadlines and required documentation through the completion and submission of the application. The Counselor maintains regular communication with students ensuring that applicants have a clear sense of their aid status throughout the application process. The Counselor oversees the reporting and disbursement of federal and private student loans and coordinates internally with the Business Office to ensure alignment of this work. The Financial Aid Counselor also works in partnership with key offices on campus on status changes for students.

  • Prior financial aid experience and a familiarity with the requirements of federal, state, College and private aid assistance programs (i.e., FAFSA and CSS Profile) preferred.
  • A minimum two years’ related experience; general knowledge of accounting and federal tax systems as it relates to financial aid programs.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential.
  • Candidates must be highly organized, possess sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills and be able to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Advanced computer proficiency required (financial aid software, Google Suite, Office Suite).
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; BA degree preferred.

The position requires successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.
